About the Concealed Carry Permit:
Starting January 1, 2020, Tennessee Department of Safety Homeland Security will begin to allow Tennessee residents to apply for the Concealed Carry Only Handgun permit by taking a 90-minute online safety school course.

Applicants can purchase the training, take the safety test, and receive the certificate instantly once the training is completed.
The TN online safety course is 90 minutes and will divide into three sections. After purchase, applicants will have unlimited access to the safety course video; however, they will only be able to take the test once per purchased video course. If an applicant fails the test, they will have to repurchase a new one.

To qualify for a TN Concealed Carry Only Permit, applicants must first complete a 90-minute course certified from the Department of Safety Homeland Security: Handgun Unit.

Apply at your local DMV.
After receiving the safety school certificate, applicants can apply at any local DMV within the state. Applicants should bring the following documents for the visit: certified birth certificate or passport, (2) proofs of residency, and Social Security card.

Get Fingerprinted.
All applicants required to get fingerprinted. TBI fingerprints are used to determine eligibility through a vigorous background check. All information on how to schedule fingerprint appointments will be given at the local DMV.
